What is software?
Software is a set of instructions usually written in coded format. Software controls operation of a hardware system and programmable devices. It performs specific tasks on the data given by the user and calculate final results.
Software is needed to control operation of advanced machines such as Computers, Mobiles, CNC Machines, etc. Software allows us to multitask. We can perform various tasks by changing software by same hardware. It is not possible to change hardware frequently. Changing or selecting software is easy task.
Computers or machines can understand only machine level language, which is nothing but voltage spikes of 0 and 1. Programs are written in various programming languages like C, C++, JAVA, Oracal, Cobol, etc. A compiler is used which converts these languages into machine level code. Languages can be understood by the programmer in order to develop program.
A programmer is a person who makes softwares. He also debugs and provides updates in future. Usually a team of programmers work to develop a software. Each part of software is divided into modules, and distributed among programmer team. Finally, when each bit is complete, all the bits are cascaded and final program is formed. It is tested and bugs are removed. Also depending on the feedback from customers, time to time updates and debugging is provided.
Software industry has became one of the World’s largest industry. It requires talented computer and electronic engineers. Softwares opened new world of research and development for human being.
